Anisha S.'s Slidely by Slidely Slideshow Hello Everyone, Namaskar! You might be wondering what does “Namaskar” mean right? So to tell you, it is a greeting in my language! Now you might be thinking that is it a greeting from China, Japan, Nepal, or India. If you guessed India then you are surely correct. Yes, I am from India, my country, my mother land! India is a very beautiful and populous country in the world! It is best known for its spices, festivals, grand weddings, beautiful sceneries, delicious foods and dances! Many people around the world celebrate Indian festivals, dance on Indian songs and the most amazing thing of all is that people also watch Indian movies and some of them are also translated into different languages. India is the biggest democracy and has 29 states and 7 territories. Our country has many land features such as rivers, mountains, and lakes. India has a lot of interesting places like Golden Temple, Taj Mahal, and Amer Fort. You might find India a bit crowded since it has a big population. One thing, when it is summer time in India it is really hot there and when it is winter then you might find it even worse. It can be extremely cold. But there is one season which you might love! Rainy season! It is really fun jumping here and there and getting wet in the rain. If you go to India then you must see the tigers and the wildlife of India! It is really fantastic. India has the largest population of Indian elephants. Our country has a mix of different animal species. India also consists of many national parks such as, Kaziranga National Park and Bandhavgarh National Park. Valley of Flowers National Park is also one of the best parks. It is full of beautiful flowers and mountains! It is like being in heaven! I am sure that after visiting these places you will be so much amazed. One more thing which will amaze you is Indian food! The different varieties of delicious food from different states are very famous! They look so good! Some of the most famous food is samosa, jalebi, gulab jamun, rasgullla, kaju barfi, chicken tikka, paneer pakoda, and idli sambar. India is also a land of many festivals! The main festivals which are celebrated in India are Holi, Diwali, and Raksha Bandhan. Holi is also known as festival of colors! We use colors to put on other people. This is a celebration for arrival of spring and celebration of victory of one of our prince over an evil named Holika! Diwali, also the festival of light is a celebration of the return of two most known gods to their home after a long exile for 14 years in the forest! On this day people light up their houses, wear new cloths, participate in family prayers, and share sweets with other people. Raksha Bandhan symbolizes the bonding of brother and sister. On this day sister ties a rakhi on her brother’s arm wishing him wellbeing! And the brother vows his sister to protect her! So this is all about my country, India! What do you think? Please share below in the comment box. And don’t forget to share something about your country too! How many posts did I write?

Well I have watched them playing live for Women’s Asia Cup held on December 4 in AIT (Asian Institute of Technology). This match was for women only where they battled against another country.
You see women have power to play cricket. Cricket is not an easy game and aside from physical stamina it requires discipline, sportsman spirit, confidence, and a lot of teamwork. And not only men but women also possess all these powers. Which means men and women have equal talents and women should also be respected just like men. There is no doubt that women are hardworking. They do so much of work but rarely complain. They are the first teacher of a child so why not regard their talents, why not give them opportunities to excel in their field, and why not give them the respect that they deserve. On December 4, 2016 a cricket match was held between India and Pakistan in AIT. This match was for Women’s Asia Cup. It is played every year in AIT but this was my first time to watch this match. Actually I was not that much interested in cricket match because I did not understand the game properly so I had no interest in watching it. It felt so boring whenever I heard the word cricket. But then, one day, my dad said, “Come with us and watch it carefully. You will surely understand it.” So I said, “Okay”! And guess what I started to grow my interest in cricket. I kind of felt proud also of my country’s women team. I also started understanding the game because while the match was on my dad explained the rules and regulations to me. And I really did have a lot of fun there with my dad cheering for our women to win! Cheers for the Women! You can do it! Indian Association Are you part of any community? Well, I am! Let me describe first “What Is a Community?” Community is a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. I am from India and I am part of an "Indian Association" in AIT and this is one of the community I like very much. In this community Indian students of Asian Institute of Technology, that we AITIS are a part of, organize different types of events or you can say activities. Each semester they elect a president from student/staff families who is in charge of organizing different events. Some of the activities that are organized are Welcome parties, Farewell parties, and Indian festivals. The association organizes welcome parties for the new AIT students and teaching faculties. Since these gatherings are for Indians, only Indians are supposed to come and meet each other, get introduced to new people, and enjoy the party together which brings great fun for everyone. The association also organizes festivals like Diwali which is one of my favorite festivals. In Diwali they try their best to make wonderful decorations which look very pretty. I really like the Rangoli designs that they make! They also hold prayers for some small festivals like Janmashtami in the Hindu prayer room in AIT. Janmashtami is a celebration of one of our gods’ birthday. They prepare for the prayer and the activities. The association also organizes farewell parties. In these parties they give gifts to those students who have graduated and say goodbye to them! The advantages of being in this community is that I get to know more people and make new friends! Not only that I always have fun and learn new things. But there are some disadvantages also. When activities are arranged on week days it gets hard for me to join because I have to stay at home and finish up my homework. Sometimes celebrations are held far away from our place and if my parents have some other commitments it gets hard for me to join them. Well this was about me. What about you? If you are part of any such community do share with me in the comment section below. Image Credit for image number 1: https://bestlovesms.in/2016/10/peacock-rangoli-designs.html

Do you love reading books? Well, I kind of do. But after reading do you make a book report or something?
Our school has made a reading program named “Joy of Reading”! In this program we have to read books and make different tasks. (You can find these tasks on the following LINK.) Wait! Did I mention that you can read as many books as you want and choose the tasks and start making? Doing all these things is really fun! After you will make three tasks, you will receive a Joy of Reading Tag! Below is the tag which I was talking about! You have to try to complete at least three tasks to get 1 tag. And if you completed fifteen tasks then you will get a certificate! But sadly we have to leave this school soon and then no more Joy of Reading tags for us! Below is also one of my flipbook that I created using FlipSnack App for my JOR tasks.
One of 6th graders’ activity at AITIS is to learn Team Building Skills.
6th graders go out for a two days one-night camp to learn this skill. This year we 6th graders went for a Team Building Camp with our three advisors; Mrs. Farzana our homeroom teacher, Mrs. Hasmina our counselor, and Mr. James our art teacher. We went to Lum Luk Ka OFM Retreat House. In late September, at 8:00 am in the morning we assembled ourselves in the assembly and got ready to leave. We were separated in two groups for the van, girls group and boys group. While we were being seated comfortably the driver kept our belongings in the van and off we went for our journey. We finally reached to our destination at around 9:30 am. The teachers had booked four cabins, one for girls, one for the boys, another for Mr. James, and the last one for Mrs. Farzana and Mrs. Hasmina. We hurried up to our own cabins and changed our cloths and got out of the cabins ready with our materials. We had our snacks first then we started with our first activity. In our first activity the teachers gave us a paper and we had to write acrostic poem for our names and decorate it. After this activity the teachers put a paper on our back and all of our classmates had to write positive things about each other. The next game was “Caterpillar Traverse”! This was the best game which we all liked. In this game we were grouped into two groups. All of us had to tie our feet with our group members on our sides, right and left. Then we had to walk with our group from one square to another without letting our feet touch the boundary lines of squares. After this we worked for a while on our memory books. When this activity was done we had our lunch. When lunch was over, we all went to our own cabins and rested while others played. Later we played a game called “Frog Leap”. In this game also there were two groups. Our next game was Chinese Whisper and we were grouped in two again. We made two lines facing the teachers at the front. The teachers gave a phrase to the first student in each group and that student had to whisper it to the next person and so on and the last person needed to write and show it to the teacher. The sentence we got was “If you are not willing to learn no one can help you. If you are determined to learn no one can stop you.” By the time it reached to the last person in my group it was, “If you are not willing to learn no one will help. If you are determined to learn then no one can stop you.” After all these activities we had our snacks. When we finished our snacks we went to our cabins to rest for a few minutes. After resting we went to an area where old people live who don’t have family to take care of them. We sang a beautiful song to them titled ‘On My Honor.’ After coming back from that place the teachers gave us some papers and we did some more activities to put in our memory book. After it was complete we had our dinner and went back to our cabins and had a good sleep. Next day, it was 6:00 am in the morning when our teachers called us for morning walk. After our walk we had breakfast. Later, we played a game called ‘Blind Snake’! This game was one of the best games because we enjoyed it a lot and sure we did win! In this game there were two groups, one girls and the other one was boys. We all had to stand in a line covering our eyes using a bandana except the last person. There were objects all around us and the last person had to give signals by patting the person at the front. Then that person patting the other one at the front, and so on. When the last person got the direction he or she would pick up the object. Our next activity was ‘Centipede’ in which we had to make a wheel with cardboard papers and we had to roll in it too. After all these fun activities we had our one last and final snack. When everyone was ready to play the teachers announced the next activity which was the Cups Game in which we were divided into two groups. We had to pile up the cups with yarn and rubber bands. We were not allowed to touch the cups with our hands. And now it was time for our very last activity which was the “Foil and Pipe Cleaner”! We formed four groups by picking up a picture card. We all had to find a characteristic which could define our group. After brainstorming we had to make a 3D representation of that characteristic with foil and pipe cleaner. After all was done we went to our cabins and packed our stuff. We sat in our vans at 12:00 pm and headed back to school. We really had a wonderful Team Building Camp this year! Do you organize any such activity in your school? If so, what is that? Do share it with me in the comments section below.
